Winter Carnival in Mc Call Idaho
Day 1: 9 hour drive-
As we are turning onto Grandma Barb and Grandpa Steve Buscolini's street Emerson starts throwing up- great timing b/c we were practically there! Once we got inside and cleaned up, the girl's first slumber party began. Us Donovan's had a bedroom to share and when I set up the Pack n Play for Sara, everyone wanted to get in. Katie had fun tucking everyone in, herself included.
Grandma and Grandpa have a cat. This was everyone's favorite treat. When Cali needed a break from all the toddler hands and energy, she would crawl under the bed. What she didn't realize was that toddlers can crawl with the best of them. (Check out the photo of all the footed PJ bottoms sticking out from under the bed)
Day 2: Exploring the town of Mc Call
During Winter Carnival, the town has a snow sculpture contest. Residents get their chain saws, hatchets, and whatever tools they can gather and make really amazing snow sculptures. They are everywhere, and very detailed.
That afternoon we let the girls try dog sledding- toddler style of course. Rudy, The Buscolini's dog was practicing for the dog pull competition the following day. He pulled the girls through the neighborhood, and then Sara tried pulling the others as well.
Day 3: Mardi Gras Parade
This was our first parade experience. The girls were a little unsure at first, but as soon as people started throwing beads and candy from the floats, they were really into it. The whole town was dressed in crazy, fun attire. Of course all the girls had beads around their necks and festive ribbons in their hair.
Day 4: Sleigh ride to feed the Elk
Over the river and through the woods, the feed the elk we go... This was so cool- We were pulled through the woods by 2 horses and in the middle of it all we stopped. That's when the Elk saw us and surrounded us for the next hour. At one point I tried to count, but I lost track at 50 Elk. They were beautiful. We were all sitting on alf alfa bales and the Elk came to feed on our seats. At one point I fell in a hole that was created after an Elk ate the bottom out from under me.
In order to keep the Elk from being scared off by crying or screaming toddlers (which we we told the Elk interpret as one of their babys being slaughtered) we of course brought along the candy from yesterday's parade. I'm not sure if the kiddos actually noticed their were Elk, but they REALLY enjoyed the coveted lollypops.
Day 5: 9 hour drive home-
We were all ready to sleep in our own beds, but we were all sad to leave Grandma, Grandpa, Rudy, and of course the cat. Katie actually cried for the cat the day after we got home. I can't wait to do it again in the summer!
Girl's Road Trip- Mc Call, Idaho!
I was a bit unsure starting out if this trip was going to push me over the edge in the sanity department, but it turned out great! Picture this: three 2 year olds in the third row, Katie (4.5) and myself in the middle row, (along with snacks and toys galore) my friend's Kate and Amy in the driver's and passenger seats of my Honda Pilot. Oh, and we had a Grande luggage burrito on the roof. All of this for a nice 9 hour drive to Mc Call, Idaho. Believe it or not there were no tears on the way there, and only a few on the way home. Like I said, it turned out great.
